June 4-5, 2005 saw Tulsa Rocketry host the first Prairie Thunder
Regional Launch at the Pawhuska Municipal
Airport, located in scenic Osage County,
Oklahoma.
The range was open both Saturday and Sunday at 9:00am and closed at
5:00 pm. We had a waiver to 20,000 feet AGL. Check out the
launch photos.
LOC/Precision
sponsored the Ultimate
Warloc Drag Race.
The prize for first place was a $50 gift certificate from LOC/Precision,
which was won by Mike Doyle of Claremore, OK.
The star party Saturday night
was to be put on by members of the Astronomy
Club of Tulsa. Unfortunately it was clouded out by the severe
storms in the area that night. However, Louis A. Mayo, a NASA
planetary scientist from the Goddard Spaceflight Center, has worked on Voyager and Cassini among other
missions, gave a very interesting talk at the Constantine Theater in
Pawhuska. The ACT also had an inflatable
planetarium on-site Saturday that seated 25-30 children or adults at
a time, with 45
minute shows running all day.
For youth fliers through age 18, there was a "Closest to the Buffalo" contest each day.
The contest was sponsored by Helmer Oil Corporation of
Pawhuska. The daily prizes were $25, $15 and $10 dollars for
