To All:
Here is an update of the weekend's progress:
Airframe Team - Tom Savoie and the Airframe Team continued working on the airframe
tube. The primer coat was wet-sanded and the tube was then checked for imperfections. A
layer of filler putty was applied and allowed to dry. The tube was then power-sanded
followed by hand-sanding selected spots. Although some detail sanding and filling remain,
the surface of the tube is close to completion
Wings and fins - The wings and fins team also made good progress. All the wings and
fins were laid out onto the composite material, using the templates previously created.
All four fins and two of the wings were then
cut out using the table saw. We also spent a considerable amount of time talking
through various approaches for building the leading edges and wing
fairings. By the end of the day, we had determined our approach for each task and we
are in the process of acquiring materials.
Avionics Bays - Mike Doyle also made some progress on the Avionics Bays. End pieces and
caps were cut and sanded, in preparation for mounting into the nose cone/coupler section,
once it is delivered.
Work Schedule - We had a group meeting towards the end of the day to assess our overall
progress to date. We determined that, even though some good progress has been made, much
work remains and we are falling behind our
original schedule. To get back on track, we decided to begin working EVERY Saturday
until further notice. I am preparing a 'timeline' for the remaining tasks, which will be
distributed within a few days. I realize that not everyone will be able to participate
EVERY weekend, but there will be work going on, so if you are available, please come out
and help.
That's it for now.
